The Government notifies the public on IEBC Vacancies.
The government through a gazette notice has notified the public about the impending three Vacancies at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
The tenure of the Chairperson and two members of the IEBC is set to lapse on the 17th January 2023 having been appointed on the 18th January, 2017 .
The First schedule of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission act requires that at least six months before the lapse of the term of the Chairperson or member of the commission the president shall appoint a selection panel consisting of seven persons for purposes of appointment of the Chairperson or member of the commission.
Therefore the Vacancies will arise in the position of the Chairperson and two members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission as from 17th January 2023. Then the Chairperson and the two Commissioners would have served two terms as per the Constitution and will be set to retire.
The president has therefore notified the public the Vacancies of the Chairperson and two Commissioners as conferred by section 7A(2) of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission act as read with paragraph 1(1) of the first schedule of the Independent and Boundaries Electoral Commission,Act 1 .
