University of Nairobi first year may give a wide berth the reporting which was to happen tomorrow on 20th September 2021.
According to the student union officials ,if the first years will report then it means they are joining us in the planned demonstrations.
The student union is citing hiking of school fees as the reason for demonstrations.
The University administration increased the school fees to around 70% unlike what they used to pay. The increase of both Tuition fee and accommodation fee has made students to register there dissatisfaction .
First years were asked to pay 58000 meant for an academic year but now it’s paid for a semester.
The Students have even vowed to disrupt the incoming 65th graduation ceremony that is likely to take place on September 24th.
UoN council of governors Chairman George Reagan requested president Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene in the squabbles that have erupted due to the increase of school fees.
The official requested the president to make University tuition fee free and increase HELB allocation .
The first years who were to report tomorrow will pay 18690 for accommodation unlike 2700 which was paid previously .
The hostels were charged at sh.30, sh 28,and sh 26 per day for a whole semester.
In the revised accommodation fee the students will pay 175 daily for a single room and 144 for a room shared by two.
Master students were also slapped with an average of sh 60000 for a two year program an increase of almost 100% .
