Salary and Allowances of Cabinet Secretaries In Kenya.
The Cabinet Secretaries are in charge of Government departments and they are part of the Executive arm which comprise of the President, Deputy president, Prime Secretary and the Attorney General, the Cabinet Secretaries are part of the Executive.
According to the Kenya’s constitution, the primary responsibility of the Cabinet Secretaries is to take charge and oversee their respective ministries. They are answerable to the President and they regularly submit Ministry reports to the Parliament.
President Ruto appointed 22 Cabinet Secretaries who are now state officers and work for the National Government as part of the Executive arm.
In Kenya ,the President appoints the Cabinet Secretaries whose names are forwarded to the National Assembly to be examined by the The Parliamentary Committe. The Committee then tables a report to the whole house of Parliament for approvals.
After the approval by Parliament the CS are then formally sworn in to start their duties.
Salaries and Renumeration
The Salaries and Renumeration Commission (SRC)recently gazzetted a notice on how much a Cabinet Secretary should earn. According to SRC this is what a Cabinet Secretary should earn;
Basic Salary ksh. 554,400.
House Allowance ksh.200,000
Market adjustment ksh 169,600.
Total Salary Per Month ksh 924,000.
Other Benefits
The Cabinet Secretaries are given a government vehicle with a maximum 3000cc engine for their transportation.
Medical Benefits
A yearly medical insurance plan is offered. The insurance covers one spouse and up to four children who are fully dependent on the state officer and are under the age of 25 as follows ;
Inpatient;Ksh 10 million out-patient
Out-patient ksh. 300,00
Maternity;Ksh 150,000
Dental ;ksh 75,000
Optical :Ksh 75,000.
A car loan of up to Ksh 10million.
Mortgage of up to ksh 40 million
Airtime of up to a maximum of ksh.20,000 per month.
Annual leave allowance;50,000 per annum.
