In the recent past week teachers have opposed on what Teachers Service Commission is imposing on them on the professional training which will culminate to the renewal of Certificates.
Many KUPPET branch Executive Secrataries and Council of chairmen have petitioned the the National Executive Council to re-look at the TPD issue which the teachers is so punitive to the teachers.
The Kuppet Executive Secretaries pointed out at the cost implication of enrolling the programme and whether the teachers were involved in making such gravious decisions of re-training the teachers. The union would have atleast involved the teachers in what Is termed as public participation.
In what has been seen as a reprieve for the teachers ,the Lawyer Society of Kenya President has finally changed his mind to represent the teachers on the legal perspective of it. Nelson Havi had earlier said he will not challenge the TPD in court since the teachers were to blame for kicking out Wilson Sossion who was at the forefront of fighting the teachers rights and welfare.
Havi in his Twitter account said “After reflecting on what would have been good for my late father and my mother, both of whom were great teachers, I have changed my mind. I will act for teachers to challenge the oppressive Teacher Professional Development Programme imposed by the TSC. Let us get started.”
It therefore means the LSK president will challenge the TPD issue in court in the coming week.
