The ministry of Education through a circular has informed the stakeholders that the final phase of change of set books for Literature in English and Fasihi ya Kiswahili for Secondary schools for the period of 2022-2026 has been finalized.
Some of the texts to be studied by form 3 students beginning April 2022 while others are scheduled to commence in January 2023.
The new texts shall be replacing thoseĀ that have been in place since 2017 as per circular issued by the Ministry of Education.
The duration for the study of set books is 5 years . The new set books for English and Kiswahili are the ones to be replaced.
Literature in English the compulsory novel set book will be;
Fathers of the Nations by Paul B. Vita published by Oxford University press. The book will be done from 2023-2026. The will replace
Blossoms of the Savannah by Henry Ole Kulet.
The compulsory play(play from the rest of the world)
The Samaritan by John Lara (approved by the KICD ,2021 edition) published by the Kenya Literature Bureau which be done from 2023-2026 and it will replace A Doll’s House by Henry Ibsen .
The literature optional set books will be Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro(approved by KICD 2021 school edition) published by Longhorn publishers ,the set book will be done from 2022- 2026 and it will replace The Pearl by Jonn Steinbeck .
The Anthology of short stories which is also optional will be A Silent song and other stories edited by Godwin Siundu(approved by KICD 2021 school edition published by spotlight publishers (EA) LimitedĀ and will be done from 2022-2026 which will replace Memories we Lost by Chris Wanjala.
Lastly, the optional play will be A parliament of owls by Adipo Sidang (approved by KICD 2021 school edition) published by East African Educationals will be done from 2023 -2026 and will replace Inheritance by David Mulwa.
Fasihi ya Kiswahili compulsory Set books.
Tamthilia will be Bembea by Dr. Timothy Moriasi(kimeidhinishwa na KICD Toleo la 2021) published by Access and it will be done as from 2022-2026 replacing Kigogo by Pauline Kea Kyovi.
Hadithi Fupi will be Mapambazuko ya Machweo na Hadithi Nyingine published by Mountaintop will be done as from 2022-2026 and will replace Tumbo lisiloshiba na Hadithi Nyingine by Alifa Chokocho na Dumu Kayanda .
Riwaya,Nguu za Jadi by Prof Clara Momanyi published by Queenex will be done from 2023-2026 will be replacing Chozi la Heri by Assumpta Matei.
The commencing and lapsing year imply that the form 3 class of the given year are the first and last to study the particular book respectively.
The books for the period 2022-2026 have a running foot note on every page stating “approved by KICD 2021 edition”
