A passport is a document issued to Kenya citizens by the Directorate of Immigration Services and is valid for a maximum period of 10 years to enable them travel abroad. Its now a mandatory that whoever is applying for the Green card lottery must possess the Kenyan passport.
In September 2017 ,Kenya launched the e-passport system to issue digital passports in compliance with ICAO document 9303 and the East African Community Summit resolution

Nairobi,Mombasa,Kisumu,Embu,Nakuru,Kisii and Eldoret. The six foreign missions include London,Washington DC, Berlin, Pretoria, Dubai and Paris.
Here are the Application Steps for Applying The Passport
1. One should register for e-citizen account ,if u had an account earlier you can still use it for the same.
2.Fill an online application
3.Scan and Upload required documents(The documents will be highlighted later)
4.Pay prescribed fee.
5. Book Appointment
6.Print the duly completed application form and two invoices
7.Attach copies of required documents
8.Submissions and Bio-metrics (on the appointment date)
If one is applying for the first time he or she should have the following documents for easier filling of the application form online.The documents are also supposed to be scanned.
The documents required are;
1.Original Birth Certificate and a copy for Citizens of Kenya by birth.
2.Certificate of Registration for Citizens of Kenya by Registration .
3.Original applicant`s national identity card and a copy for adults.
4.A copy of recommenders National identity card.
5.Copies of Parents national identity cards both Father and Mother./ Death certificates should be given incase of the loss of one or both parents.
Application fees.
Application fees will depend on the type of application one wants to apply for. Here are the categories and the amount needed for each.

All Applicants must appear in person in various passport control systems (stations) mentioned above . Appearance at the stations depends on the appointments made during the application and filling of the form online.
Then the applicant will submit the form and enrol for the biometric. The applicant should carry the Original Identity Card and Birth certificate.
The passport can be delivered through a postal corporation services within the country while delivery to the foreign missions is done by the Ministry of Foreign affairs.
Applicants normally receives a notification via SMS with instructions on how to collect it. The message normally reads ,click on the link for and follow the instructions on how you can collect your passport.
